Hold on Wes

Posted in: PATA
Mr. Monhollen,

Before you make any rash decision to hold a special election in August, take some time to relax and unwind. I realize you feel that you have no choice, but take a day or so to think about it. We all always have choices.

Will the voters support you in August if you spend money that we supposedly don?’t have on a special election? Will the voters be able to swallow those thousands of dollars plus the costs for another pro-levy campaign? I think the wells for those things are running dry. All you will be left with as contributors are the very villains that are causing the problems ?– the developers. Building levy campaigns from developer?’s wallets will not sell well here.

I would like to say you have more experience in these matters than I do so I should trust your decision. But, you don?’t. You are a relative neophyte to these matters. Perhaps you need to seek advice from those that have faced this situation before. Perhaps Dr. Thiede has faced them before or knows who has.

Please don?’t be rash in your decisions. Please don?’t be rash in your statements to the press. With a recall election looming, various referendums, and the like, the voters are soon simply going to lose interest and stop bothering to vote on something every couple of weeks. Unless it is your plan to appear on the ballot so often that so few come out to vote that you can bank on the ones that do to support you.

You are not the cause of the financial situation. The former dominion is. I realize you feel a victim of it and that the situation demands drastic action. Just let caution be your beacon. You realized what a liability an association with some repugnant boosters can be like. Don?’t replace him with clones of his. He is as despicable as the developers that are stealing our community from us.

Look to the community to help solve the problems. Don?’t just look at our wallets.

share the costs

If these Recall circulators step on it they may be able to have the special elections for the recall at the same time the school board is asking for more money with an operating levy in a special election.

The boys of lockville are concerned about saving the taxpayers money and I am sure if you could put the two issues right next to each other you might get more support from the city residents and the tax payers would save a little by killing to birds with one stone.

Whoops I forgot no violence per Mark.
Share that or....

Good idea -

We can share the costs of the Special Election or share the costs of building the rest of the schools the community authority needs.

Which is more cost effective for the taxpayers?
Float this

Maybe we could fund the special election by selling the $17,000 float. Judging from the look of our council, a few walking laps around the parade route would be a good idea on a regular basis.

Also can't help but feel a bit sorry for Mr. Uher today. Without high school sports to make him forget he's old and washed up, he might just start to feel...well...old and washed up! Maybe he could get a golf cart, and lead the council in a daily run around the city. That's a ''win/win'' if I ever saw one.

I mentioned an ''intervention'' in a posting last week, and said it would start today...it has! It won't look like much of an improvement at first, maybe it will even look like ''chaos'', but it will move us in the right direction.

I certainly don't have any insight that all of the rest of you don't have, but just on a ''feeling'', I'd be willing to place a bet that someone will find some money so Mr. Uher can continue to enjoy Pickerington football, and memories of his youth, next year. If not, then that's the cost of initiating a direction that will allow our schools to survive long term.

Remember, just a year or so ago, it didn't look like there would be any density restrictions, emergency power restrictions, or sewer tap restrictions, and there was no chance of a growth moratorium, or any fiscal responsibility by the school board. We're a heck of a lot closer to all of those things today, and Brian Fox is fighting for his political life....I wouldn't say that's success, but its movement in the right direction.
