Mr. Monhollen,
Before you make any rash decision to hold a special election in August, take some time to relax and unwind. I realize you feel that you have no choice, but take a day or so to think about it. We all always have choices.
Will the voters support you in August if you spend money that we supposedly don?’t have on a special election? Will the voters be able to swallow those thousands of dollars plus the costs for another pro-levy campaign? I think the wells for those things are running dry. All you will be left with as contributors are the very villains that are causing the problems ?– the developers. Building levy campaigns from developer?’s wallets will not sell well here.
I would like to say you have more experience in these matters than I do so I should trust your decision. But, you don?’t. You are a relative neophyte to these matters. Perhaps you need to seek advice from those that have faced this situation before. Perhaps Dr. Thiede has faced them before or knows who has.
Please don?’t be rash in your decisions. Please don?’t be rash in your statements to the press. With a recall election looming, various referendums, and the like, the voters are soon simply going to lose interest and stop bothering to vote on something every couple of weeks. Unless it is your plan to appear on the ballot so often that so few come out to vote that you can bank on the ones that do to support you.
You are not the cause of the financial situation. The former dominion is. I realize you feel a victim of it and that the situation demands drastic action. Just let caution be your beacon. You realized what a liability an association with some repugnant boosters can be like. Don?’t replace him with clones of his. He is as despicable as the developers that are stealing our community from us.
Look to the community to help solve the problems. Don?’t just look at our wallets.
