Why is the new majority on the PLSD board of education ?–Monhollen, Oakes and Rigelman ?– trying to sabotage Issue 7 on May 6th by keeping the finances of the school district hidden from the public? Why have they denied the many requests for the entire FY 04 budget by line item, and the last three years and next three years?’ future projections again by line item? Why are they refusing to provide us the accurate financial information and continue to make threats and use scare tactics to get Issue 7 approved?
Why did they eliminate student activities but kept funding for the board of education in these ?‘austere?’ times? The fact is that FY 04 board of education line item is larger than the entire taxpayers cost for: Student Council; Peer Mediation, National Honor Society; Science Club; French Club; Middle School Yearbook, Band & Orchestra; Junior High band and vocal ensemble, and the High School Drama Club benefiting 1465 students. Yes, money for Monhollen, Oakes and Rigelman is far more important than the educational opportunities for 1465 students.
Why are they hiding the minutes from the Finance Committee? On March 23, Rigelman bragged here on this website, ?‘The school board has established a Finance Committee, on which I serve, to exercise more careful financial oversight.?’ Yet, when I made a legal request for full and accurate minutes of the Finance Committee meetings on March 27, Monhollen threatened to ?‘knock my head off?’ and ?‘kick my fat little ass out town?’. (Keep in mind, there is nothing that pisses off corrupt elected officials more than a legal request under the Ohio?’s Open Records Act). Monhollen & the district stated that the ?‘Board of Education does not have a Finance Committee?’ and the Finance Liaisons have never met with ?‘Fairfield County Deputy Auditor Ed Laramee, Bill Miller, Steven Hersch, Bob Harding, Bill Powers and Michael J. Maurer in district offices between the period of November 4, 2002 and February 3, 2003?’. Now, who is telling us a lie ?… Monhollen or Rigelman or both? Is there a finance committee or not? (By the way, I have learned a lot about suitable rhetoric from Rigelman ?– it is not a personal attack on elected official if you call that official corrupt and advocate removal from office of corrupt elected office holders).
Why have Monhollen, Oakes & Rigelman continued to waste taxpayer dollars on ?‘Monhollen?’s Taj Mahal?’? Why have they lied to the public about ?‘equal facilities??’ The fact is the two new buildings were barely started and few if any purchase orders were issued when they took control of the ?‘austere?’ finances of the district. Monhollen, Oakes and Rigelman could have saved the taxpayers over $5,000,000 and refunded our tax dollars. Why did THEY approve the expensive wood paneling throughout the stadium?’s press box, 12 huge brass chandeliers and ?‘New Albany-style?’ green outdoor lighting at the junior high, silver-black-purple seats on the home side in the stadium, a baseball complex rivaling OSU?’s; $560,000 in landscaping; a ?‘corporate headquarters?’ reception desk in the high school; expensive, hand-crafted mosaic tile in the serving line in the cafeteria; diamond-designed railing in the performing arts center; and Ethan Allen furniture in the high school media center? I trust the dedication plaque in the facilities featuring their names will be solid gold too (brass tarnishes with age). With all due respect, I would have preferred less opulent facilities and a refund on my property tax bill. Monhollen, Oakes and Rigelman should have a paid more attention to the finances of the school district rather than the affairs of City Hall. If they want to run City Hall, then they should move into the City and run for City Council this fall.
I hope voters think of the kids on May 6th instead of the inept board leaders.
