Using Her Position on the Board

Tim - Its About Meeting Minutes

Tim,

The public will never know if the builders contribution was declined by the Finance Committee, because the Finance Committee meeting on Sunday, January 26, 2003 was a closed meeting, with no public notice and no full and accurate minutes.

There is an outstanding guide to the Open Records Act and the Open Meetings Act on the Attorney General's website, Tim, for your information. Pages 70-93 cover the Open Meeting Act. Please note that all subcommittees and committees of a public body (such as our Board's Finance Committee) are in fact public body and must comply with the requirements of the Open Meeting Act.

Tim, I urge you to encourage our school board members to comply with the Open Meeting Act so all of us are informed of their decisions, whether or not we agree with them or not. Yes, it is upsetting when board members do not comply with the law and label people as troublemakers for urging compliance.

Thanks.
