Don't Agree
I appreciate the comments I have read here, but I don't feel the same way and my kids will go to Central next year.
I have girls and that may be the difference. I am sending my kids to school to get an education not an athletic scholarship. I don't think the Central football stadium is a problem and can't imagine spending two million dollars to move it a block.
I also don't want to pay to brick the outside of Central - that's the biggest difference between the two schools. Once you are inside the difference is much less apparent. Personally I appreciate the technology at Ridgeview and Central that was put in last year that has LCD prrojectors in all the rooms and a 50'' horizontal screen for all of the kids to use. And this isn't at North and Lakeview for those of you keeping score.
Year round school only increases your seats by one third & won't last very long. There are over 700 kids in trailers now, so building one school solves to the immediate problem but allows no room for the continued growing population. So we buld one school and tell the school board they can't plan because it's full with portables before it opens?
Smaller square footage schools are an option if the community wants to take the chance to get no OSFC funding, but a school can't be built for $7.5 M (at least one to hold as many kids as we need) So the risk is you build schools for less dollars & when OSFC funding is available you still have to raise the local portion first - which wouldn't count any of the smaller schools. I don't think our tax base is one that makes this a good option. I think the school or schools that are built should meet the criteria so down the road we can get state money - we sure aren't going to get it from businesses!
