It's The Economy Too...!!!!!

Delphi Automotive is in BANKRUPTCY. Employees told to expect 60% wage cuts.

Dominion Homes sales are down. For the quarter ended Sept. 30, Dominion said new home sales fell 28 percent. The real estate bubble is bursting in central Ohio.

Gasoline prices are at record highs and expected to remain there.

Natural gas prices are up over 50% from last year.

Add in Pay to Play and School Fees......

Just where in the Sam Hill do you think we are going to get this magic money from?

Another Option

If we can't agree on any of this, maybe what we need to do is split the district into two parts and let each go its own way. It seems to be a ''north/south'' issue anyway so let's make the boundry Refugee Rd and forget about the rest of it.

More Questions

Thanks Mouse, Father and Broke for getting the discussion started. I have a question for each of you:

1. Would it satisfy you, Father, if the school board put another levy on the ballot to build a new football stadium at Central, and we let the voters decide this issue?

2. Broke, are you determined to vote against all school levies, because it is your only chance to control your taxes? Or are you concerned, as I am, that the school board ask for no more taxes than the PLSD really needs? Since there is a clear need for two new elementaries, would you be satisfied if you were convinced that the school board was taking all reasonable measures to keep the costs of construction projects as low as possible?

3. Mouse, would you be satisfied if our two high schools learned to share their facilities? When I was on the school board, I opposed building any football stadium at all at PHS North. I also opposed building a second field house there. I thought the two high schools could share the existing facilities at PHS Central, and that we could, instead, build a swimming pool at PHS North that both high schools could also share.

There are some definite economies of scale in education. There are, indeed, some programs that are not even possible without a large student body to draw from. To full capitalize on these economies and opportunities, I think we need to start viewing PHS Central and North, less as two separate schools, and more as two campuses of a single school. I would be very interested, Mouse, in your thoughts on that.
