Neighborhood Ideas

Is there any interest in putting in a slide at the pool?

Also, a basketball court (1/2 court or otherwise) would be a nice addition as well.  Perhaps it would give the neighborhood kids something constructive to do.

I'm a little disappointed in the new playground.  Its entirely too small and is only fun for the youngest of children.  I'm assuming given the spacing of the objects that is all the equipment that will be installed.

The pool is too shallow and people would get hurt.

As far as the playground, that damn thing cost $10k and I am sure someone got a kickback to only put what they did.

There is no way that $10k was the cost.

As far as even a half basketball court, bad idea since it would attract unwanted players at any given time during the day/week.

Also, they would have to charge a special assessment for this or get rid of the volleyball pit.

With the idiots running the HOA right now, I seriously doubt anything will be done unless they want it for themselves.

Basically unless we man the board ourselves, we are at the mercy of the goofy old guy with glasses.

And as far as I am concerned, the damn HOA board is run by NAZI's.

It is very nice to see people expressing an interest in the website. It would be just as nice to see people turn out at the annual meeting.

In regards to the cost of the playground $15k was the amount approved at the 2007 annual meeting but that was not the amount spent. The actual cost was under $4k.

Given that the entire board is composed of fresh faces I think it is a little harsh calling them nazis and idiots. It took several attempts to get enough proxies to even hold the annual meeting and elect a new board, less than twenty people out of 300 plus homes managed to attend. I am sure that the current board would be more than willing to accept your help.

Are there any plans to add more equipment?  I know my wife has volunteered to investigate various options, but her opinion was never solicited.  I'd love to spend more time there and get my $$'s worth, but there's just not much to do.  Something like the playground at Hudson/Sewell softball complex would be great - especially if you could get it coverd!  Our kids (5 & 6) have a great time at the park at Breckenridge and the one at Lookout & Plano Road.

As far as undesirables -- if the court was at least key-carded, it would help prevent unauth use.  And if they were caught inside, then you'd at least have some recourse for trespassing.

I understand that a slide would pose risk, but at some point, can't you have a waiver that if you are stupid enough to not use it as intended and get hurt that you are responsible for your own actions?  I realize taking responsibilty for your actions is something society doesn't want to do, but it seems that those of us that use our brain shouldn't be punished by thse [few] that don't.

I'd say that while I would like to see things run differently, I don't have the time to volunteer like our current members.  I gladly submit my opinions at the annual meetings, but in the end, if the end result isn't what I was after, then I can't complain too much.  If you have been to an annual meeting, you would see that apathy runs rampant here -- its a miracle that there is even a fully staffed board!

I s'pose one suggestion would is I would like to see a better use of technology to communicate and organize.  This site is ok, but look at the timelines between posts.  Mr. Sawyer, myself, and bedens.  That's a paltry 1% of the neighborhood in 6 months.  Even a simple e-mailing list (addresses hidden of course) to address everyone would be handy for such things as lost dogs, or vandelism, block parties, etc...
