Crime

I think the way this was handled is appalling.  If the law abiding citizen has to put up with the actions of disrespectful juvenile delinquents in this neighborhood, I don't want to live here anymore.  If the police think that vandalism and playing in or blocking the street is alright, what is next? The police need to talk to all of the kids involved along with both of their parents.

Agreed.

In addition to roving gangss of bottle kids, it looks like there is a new sex offender on River Trails.  This is no good.

These cops were washing their hands with this incident. They were saying they couldn't do anything. How about: They didn't want to do anything. They probably didn't want to deal with filling-out a police report. I really hope this was not the NPO who was there. I want to say I doubt it, but if it was, he has no business being an NPO.

I have noticed more basketball hoops going up and kids are playing on the streets. They do not get out of the way, and if you tap you horn for them to move, they either flip you off, or you hear the "F-word." I was told to call the non-emergency number and report the basketball hoop issue to the police immediately. The more we allow kids to play on the street, the more defiant these kids will become; not to mention the day we will have a tragic accident and it will be the driver's fault, not the parents who let them play on the street in the first place.

I've asked a few kids why they don't move the hoop to their driveways like a lot of homes have theirs set-up, and they all reply with: "We can't park our cars on the driveway because the hoop will be in the way and we can't play." Or, "My dad doesn't want it on the driveway." ???????? Then, don't buy the darn thing if you don't want it on your driveway and if you are going to be an irresponsible parent.

We have a lot of good kids in our neighborhood and a lot of responsible and caring parents.  Hats off to all these kids and families. I have many good neighbors with great and wonderful children.

It is the parents who are irresponsible and don't care where their kids are, or what their kids are doing-as long as they are not in their way.

I have two adult children who don't live at home anymore. I think I did a good job raising them. It isn't that difficult to do if one focuses more attention on their kids and not so much the petty things that are the reasons kids are neglected these days.

I think we need to form a committee to help clean-up our streets and make them safe

and livable for everyone. We have a  lot of senior citizens living in River Trails. They shouldn't have to live with all these headaches either. Everyone works hard to live in nice and safe neighborhoods.

No one should have to tolerate anyone trampling through their yards and destroying property. No one should have to put-up with getting shot at their car with a BB gun,

or anything that is unlawful. I shouldn't have to have my front yard used as a football field or a soccer field. I work hard to keep my yard and home looking nice, and I should not have to be afraid to speak-up to the police or the parents of those kids who are creating so many problems.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, IF A POLICE OFFICER CAN'T HANDLE  A PROBLEM THAT COULD ESCALATE INTO SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE, THEN HE/SHE HAS NO BUSINESS BEING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. NO ONE SHOULD HESITATE TO CALL THEIR CAPTAIN, OR TAKE IT TO THE CITY MANAGER AND LET THEM KNOW HOW THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS HANDLING THESE PROBLEMS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. BELIEVE ME, THE CITY MANAGER WON'T BE HAPPY.

I would just keep calling the police every night the kids are out.   Eventually they will get tired of it and hopefully do something about it.  They dont like to be called out for something like this but they have to respond.
