Yesterday I walked outside and noticed a cat running off after I startled it. I thought it was the neighbors cat as every now and then I seem him while walking around the block. This is on Thames Trail and Mystic Trail intersection. Anyway, he approached me and was very loving, nudging against my legs with his head, in almost a figure 8 form in between my legs. I had a can of wet cat food in my car from a few months back and laid it out on the driveway for him to eat, he wanted nothing to do with it. I pet for about 30 seconds on the head when it suddenly hissed and bit me.
I rushed to the doctor and told him the story and gave be a tetanus shot and antibiotics and said he serious doubts that the cat has rabies due to how it was not aggressive from the start. I asked around the neighbors and they all stated that they either never seen the cat or he has been around every few weeks. I called animal control and told them the story and are going to send out a office with a cat trap. This cat has no tags.
To all residents, please ensure your cat has tags as if the unlikely event of this cat has rabies. The amount of stray cats in River Trails has exploded within the last few years and this can be very dangerous of spreading diseases to your home if your animals are not vaccinated. Children playing outside may attempt to approach the animals or the animals may aggressivly approach them, please inform them of diseases and animals. Inform both animal control and myself if you see any dead cats without an apparent cause of death (Example: cats that are not hit by cars)
The cat in this picture is the closest I can find to the one that bit me on the internet:
