Andrew, I agree with you on many points, however, a store that does not think enough of this neighborhood to be clean, and well run, should not benefit from our good name. A name we have all worked extremely hard to raise up away from dirty stores and nasty parking lots. I think we should be very careful whom we indorse. Lending our name to a store that is absolutely filthy, and where at any given time you can be accosted in the parking lot, whose employees in general, but not entirely, are rude, does not seem to be responsible. Andrew, when we patrol, I have seen open drinking consistently in the parking lot to the North and west, between the hedge and the store. I have been approached by coked out people wanting a hand out, just parking and trying to get to the store. And I have probably only tried this store 6 times since I moved here. It is awful! IF we meet with the store manager, and say, ''yes'' we would love to support your store in this endeavor, if you will take appropriate steps to improve your store and the response is positive, then let's go for it. Working with on site management seems like a super idea. We all will get what we want from it, not just the store. To me, this store is no better than the Wendy's and old Farm Store were two years ago when we campaigned to get them to clean up and take responsibility. Wendy's did a magnificent job---people are no longer afraid to go there! The Touchdown, which replaced the Farm Store has done a half job. Who goes there? Sorry, but I still cannot agree to participate without a partnership that includes some attention to the store and the atmosphere it promotes. Also, it occurs to me that if this store manager is attempting this sort of thing, he might welcome the insight and be response to changing things as a means to new customers. SS |

Could we as a neighborhood make a campaign to clean up both the nasty Kash and Karry supermarket and the nasty Family Dollar store. Take photos of dirty interiors and exteriors. Get stories with dates and times from neighbors. Send letters to CEO's of both stores CCing the letters to news media. Family Dollar. Exterior needs to be cleaned and painted. Interior needs to be cleaned and kept organized. |

However, since I'm sure good percentage of our SESH neighbors shop or and some even work there, this would a be a good opportunity for us to reach those neighborhs might not have through other efforts. 12/13/04 |
