City Council Meeting Dec 6, 2007

Saren Spicer and Norm Haines attended the San Antonio City Council Meeting today and had a chance to voice our non-approval for the car wash. Councilwoman Herrera voiced her concerns as well, due to the fact that the engineering company never bothered to contact us as she requested at the last council meeting. She directed them to meet with us and see if we can 'iron' things out between us and has scheduled us back to the City Council meeting on January 10, 2008.

The engineering company will contact us sometime between now and December 20th to have a meeting at the Great Northwest Library on one early evening. As soon as a date is set I will post it. If you feel strongly about this, please call Saren at 687-5499 or myself at 681-8282.

Upcoming City Council Meeting

The City Council has asked for the HOA and the developer to meet before Thursday, January 10, 2008 and have mutually agreed on some issues concerning the re-zoning of this commercial property to include a car wash.

Luis will be going door to door on Waterford Oaks and Summer Trail between now and January 6th for your opinions. Any Oak Crest resident that is concerned should call him at 684-0642.

The City previously approved the developers plans to install a building to include a convenience store (Chevron station with 6 pumps) and three other unknown (at present) lessee's.

At a meeting with the developer on December 19th, the Developer agreed to:
Hours of Operation: even though he is asking for 24/7 approval, at present he only sees opening early morning and closing no later than midnight.
Security: Cameras will mainly be used around his property and might show a little of the creekbed area, and logically not show our side of the creekbed.
Lighting: All lighting on 25 ft poles will be directional and reflect on his property only.
Fencing/Bushes: The HOA is recommending a wooden fence along the creedkbed perimeter. It is up to him to use bushes or a fence.

Again, the upcoming City Council meeting is only to approve the zoning change to add a car wash. The car wash is a single lazer-type car wash (similar to the new one by the HEB on Tezel and Grissom). All waste water is recyled for reuse. No water from this car wash will drain into the creekbed. As for the runoff of rain water during heavy rains, the city had surveyed the area and previously approved the developers plans.

I too am very disappointed regarding the scenery and exposure I now have from may back door. Are we still working with the developer regarding cosmetic changes for homes now being exposed? If so, I would be very interested with engaging in the dialogue effort with them. 

The saddest thing about this construction area is that the property could have been purchasedby the HOA. It sure would have been nice to have a small park with a play area or maybe some walking paths. It may have been a bit too close to the busy intersection for that. If the HOA could have stepped in we could have even left it in its previous state which was pretty nice.
