Denver, Colo. (Apr. 17, 2006)—Members of the community are invited to an open house where the St. Anthony Central Redevelopment Task Force will unveil its final report of recommendations. The event will be held 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 4, 2006, in Auditoriums A & B at St. Anthony Central Hospital, 4231 W. 16th Ave., Denver, Colo.
Parking is available for $1.00 in the hospital’s parking facility near the corner of Stuart St. and 16th Ave. Some parking also is available on nearby streets. Refreshments will be served.
At the open house, members of the public will have the opportunity to review the advisory task force’s final recommendations for the vision and use of the St. Anthony Central Hospital campus after the hospital vacates its current location in 2010. The report of recommendations includes a series of guiding principles related to mix of uses, the design character of the site, access and connectivity, sustainability and other facets of development. In March 2005, St. Anthony Central announced its intention to relocate to a more expansive site in nearby Lakewood, Colo.
Established by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Denver District 1 Councilman Rick Garcia with the assistance of St. Anthony Hospitals, the advisory task force is comprised of more than 35 business people, community activists and residents. Councilman Garcia, St. Anthony Hospitals CEO George Zara and Laura Aldrete, assistant director of Denver Urban Renewal Authority, are co-chairs.
The task force and its various subcommittees have been meeting regularly since August 2005, inviting the input of area residents and business people through a variety of outreach activities, including a public workshop held on Feb. 23, 2006. The task force’s final report of recommendations will be submitted for consideration to the City and County of Denver, St. Anthony Hospitals and its sponsor, Catholic Health Initiatives. Definitive plans for redevelopment of the campus then will be established.
