Thank You

Thank you for the alert. Is " Mr. Lassiter" the same as Lane Lastinger on the Board roster in the newsleter? He used to be president and should not be giving "lame" reasons for anything, if that is who you are refering to. What is the real answer to the reason a general membership meeting has not been called? Did you ever find out?

I sincerely apologize for mispelling Mr. Lastinger's name and wish to add that I respect Mr. Lassiter and believe that he is very invested in serving the interests of the Neighborhood Association, but his explanation that the organization requires "notice" to put an entity and topic on the agenda of a meeting is "typical" is not an acceptable explanation. Developers and other entities wishing to bypass the examination of their plans by neighborhood residents and associations will operate in a way that gives us little to no time to research the issues and to show up at meetings and to write letters to appropriate officials to voice our concerns or support. The board could have scheduled the presentation for the most recent membership meeting or notified the membership and provided a choice to schedule a special meeting. In fact, according to four board members that I spoke to yesterday, CVS made an unscheduled, unannounced presentation at a board meeting, and those board members report that they felt blindsided and then pressured to vote on the spot without private discussion of the issues, which is not the typically followed procedure. I don't know the real reason why a presentation for the membership did not occur, nor do I know why CVS appeared in the manner that they did at a board meeting and why typical procedures were not followed, but if four members of the board are verbalizing mistrust of the process, I'm very concerned. Today, I received word that members of the board have joined members of the association in calling a special meeting of the membership to discuss the CVA proposal, hopefully in time to participate in a meaningful way prior to the hearing on June 19. Today, the City Council reportedly declined to postpone that hearing, which Mr. Lastinger had encouraged CVS representatives to do of their own volition. Hope this is helpful. Thanks for replying to my posting.
