In January nwe will again be faced with the Albert Whitted Airport. There are two plans.
One to pass the Master plan and add 1000 ft. to the east west runway. The Airport people believe this is a done deal.
2nd is Mayors plan. To make the North South runway the same size as the east west runway is now. To shut the east west runway down. This would allow a bigger FSU and All Childrens Hospital.We also would get a new park of several acres.

One of these plans will be passed in January. The only other answer is a Referendum by petition. It is up to you.

Airport

I agree; this is enormously important. Our neighborhood has to be concerned about flight patterns when that N/S runway is extended; jets overhead MUST not be permitted, and flight patterns must be constructed to come in over water. Mayor's proposal merits support, as it removes threat to/limitations on USF/ hospital but doesn't divest us of what may be a very important asset. There are alternative landing fields for small craft when winds aren't favorable for the N/S runway, so that shouldn't be an FAA problem. I do object to building any kind of residences on high-hazard flood zone land and think whatever's not used by airport/university/coast guard/treatment facility should become park. Especially good for noisy park events like Grand Prix, X-treme sports, etc. Fees can cover costs; even one-time tax efforts like the one which rescued Sunken Gardens. (Everyone noting how city admin, SPTimes, etc., all think Sunken Gardens the best thing since sliced bread despite what they were saying 4 yrs ago?)
