Bed and Breakfast Ord.

The CONA board requested me to put a hold on the ordinance. It was felt my several neighborhoods that the ordinance isn't something that we could vote for.
Julie Weston per my request notified the Council and they voted to put it off until Oct.I hope this will give everyone time to read the ordinance and decide if we need some changes to protect the neighborhoods.

B & B Ordinance Revision

I have a copy of the proposed revision to the ordinance and will see if I can get it posted on the website for others to review. If not, I'll be happy to make it available for others to copy. The potential areas of concern for NS are the proposal to change the usage to not only lodging but to host ''hired receptions and parties'' and to leave the parking plan for each event up to individual B&B owners. An additional concern is the deletion of the prohibition about in-room cooking, which some people worry will reverse the progress made to get rid of ''flophouses.'' There will be a presentation of the proposed ordinance at the NSNA Sept. 17 membership meeting--Julie Weston from the City Development Services, who drafted the revision, and a representative of the local B&B association, which participated in the revision, will speak.
Red Flags Are Popping UP !

RED FLAG! In-room cooking is an real potential problem and should not be allowed in any B & B. The catering business belongs in commercially zoned areas. This stuff threatens all the progress made in the southern end of our neighborhood. Let the B & B people be glad for the right to convert older houses to B & B and don't let them get greedy at the expense of the rest of us! I repeat: commercial enterprises belong in commercially zoned areas NOT in residential neighborhoods. Period.
This is bad

This is a really bad thing. Julie Weston is not to be trusted. Her expertise is in Urban Forestry . Sounds like those folks who own the B & B at 5th and 1st are pushing to sidestep their original limitations AGAIN. They expanded without a permit into the building next door and then got after the fact permits with the help of none other than Steve Lang.
Are they the ones who now want to operate an apartment building (in-room cooking) and a catering business, too? This is outrageous.
They may be real nice people but they have no right to exceed the limitations placed on their property.
