Three Strikes = OUT

Three strikes here: parking, parties and cooking. Strike OUT. No !
Concern

This revision in the ordinance may be of real concern, especially in light of the efforts put forth by North Shore over the previous ten+ years. I would hope that our own planning committee would weigh in heavily on this issue and the possible repercussions on North Shore. Thank you and CONA for bringing this to everyone's attention.

B&B Ordinance

This ordinance was drafted with the input of the local B&B association, which includes B&Bs other than the Mansion House B&B that someone referred to. The B&Bs claim that it is difficult to make a good living with lodging the only authorized use. Therefore, the request for other usage. Several B&Bs have already hosted hired gatherings, operating outside of authorized usage. I strongly encourage you to communicate whatever your opinions and concerns are to Virginia Littrell, the remainder of City Council Flood Julie Weston's mail and voice mail with your thoughts and concerns. The City report from Julie cites that she looked at other city B&B ordinances--Santa Fe, Boston, Orlando. Impressive? Santa Fe is suffering from horrible sprawl; Boston has great public transportation, so that parking is not the kind of issue it is here. What area of Orlando was studied--any neighborhoods comparable to NS? There has been a noticable trend recently in the City process of not informing neighborhoods, ours included, of projects that will impact us ''because we're not required to..'', of not seeking our input, contrary to Mayor Baker's statements that he wants neighborhood input. Another excellent example is the approval of permit for a townhome project allowing interior lot parking rather than alley parking (Ninth Ave. and Third Street North). Sad to see the lovely 1920s home being demolished this weekend that the developer said they'd relocate. Write and call the Mayor. Write and call Bob Jeffrey regarding the townhome decsion and attend the BOA hearing on the townhome application for variances--I'll check on the date and post it. Watch for the notice on the public hearing before City Council on the B&B ordinance revision and attend. We will have a full presentation of the proposed B&B ordinance on Sept. 17 at the NSNA Membership meeting--be sure to attend, and spread the word to those who don't use this website. The reason for all of the attempts on the Board's part to get information to you is because the more that you all inform yourselves and write and call the appropriate people with your concerns and opinions, the better the process works. If you'd like a copy of the B&B proposed ordinance and the staff report, contact me.
