Historic home demolished!!!???

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
What's going on at 425 17th Ave NE?
Is another beautiful and historic home being demolished?

Last week this was a beautiful and well-maintained bungalow!!!!

Whats' going on with our neighborhood's historic designation that might stop or delay this activity?

Doesn't anyone remember the beautiful home on Coffee Pot that was demolished several years ago? We still have a weed and trash ridden lot there on our beautful waterfront!!!

Where is our Board in this fight???

Quit complaining;Volunteer !

The last sentenceof the previous message is ''Where is our Board in this fight???'' And it even has three question marks. The proplem with this neighborhood, including the fact that houses get torn down is that it is all about''ME'' Whenever there is an issue to be discussed or bitched about, folks come out in droves to see WHO (besides themselves) will solve the problem. Regarding the house on 17th and many others - they will continue to be torn down until we are designated a local historic district; making that happen takes an immense amount of work. I would encourage the writer of the previous message and anyone else to contact the Neighborhood Association and GET INVOLVED. There is a Historic Preservation Committee that sure could use some enthusiastic people......and regarding that last line of the previous message (so representative of most of the people around here) Wouldn't it have been refreshing if the person had said something like CAN THE BOARD USE SOME HELP IN THIS FIGHT ? WHERE DO WE OBTAIN INFORMATION IN HOW TO BECOME INVOLVED?
ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!

Just answer the question....where is the ELECTED representation of this neighborhood regarding this issue?

Why are those of us INVOLVED enough to ask questyions ALWAYS attacked on this site??

By INVOLVED ENOUGH!!!
Historic Designation

Okay...I know enough about the designation process to undersatnd the HARD work was completed almost two years ago!

All surveys were completed accurately by VOLUNTEERS and a map was completed to accompany our neighborhood's submittal to the city and state.

At that time I was involved enough to know the submittal was 90% complete and almost ready to go. Again, that was almost two years ago now!

What happened after that information was turned over to the President and board at that time is unknown.

Current President ...can you provide an answer to this interested member - also interested enough to ask the question?
