Tea Party plots anti-federal militia

Posted in: Muscatine

Frustrated by recent political setbacks, tea party leaders and some conservative members of the Oklahoma Legislature say they would like to create a new volunteer militia to help defend against what they believe are improper federal infringements on state sovereignty.

Tea party movement leaders say they've discussed the idea with several supportive lawmakers and hope to get legislation next year to recognize a new volunteer force. They say the unit would not resemble militia groups that have been raided for allegedly plotting attacks on law enforcement officers.

"Is it scary? It sure is," said tea party leader Al Gerhart of Oklahoma City, who heads an umbrella group of tea party factions called the Oklahoma Constitutional Alliance. "But when do the states stop rolling over for the federal government?"

Thus far, the discussions have been exploratory. Even the proponents say they don't know how an armed force would be organized nor how a state-based militia could block federal mandates. Critics also asserted that the force could inflame extremism, and that the National Guard already provides for the state's military needs.

**Personal Note**

So everyone can attack me and not the message. This is not peaceful protest. These are the first steps to war. I want to again ask, is this your Tea Party.

You sound like a "Tory"!  Tongue out

By the way, the 2nd amendment to the constitution was never about hunting, or self-defense.  It was always about being able to rise up and protect ourselves against an oppresive tyrannical central government.

I'd say the ball is now in Obama and the Democrats' court.  How many want to bet that if it ever came down to the Oklahoma militia against the U.S. military, that the U.S. military would side with the Oklahoma militia and against the great Premier Oz?

Hiroad...what did he ask?  Is this my Tea Party?

Did anyone here proclaim their allegiance to the Tea Party?  Did I miss something?

First off, davie....I don't believe anyone posting here is a member of any tea party groups you keep bringing up. They have all been in other locales. So, why do you keep asking that silly question?

Secondly...do you ever read and try to digest what you read and post?

"Thus far, the discussions have been exploratory." Once again, davie...show anyone here where this is NOT "peaceful protest"? In fact, show anyone anything in your article that reports there has been ANY protest related to this article! The biscuit of an article says nothing other than discussions were/are being held. Where is the violence, once again? What in their exploratory discussions makes you leap all the way to war?

Now all of a sudden, discussions about creating something already legal in their state is threatening you? Do you even realize how communist you sound? I thought Oklahomans had free speech too. Or did I miss something somewhere?
