Bambi loved the pansies!

Dear Park West Residents!

Oh, those pansies were yummy! Could
you please plant some more on the
corner of Dalea Vista Court? :)

Signed, Bambi and all her deer pals!

P.S. I think the yellow and purple
ones taste the best! -- Bambi

Just kidding!

I know we can't do anything about the
deer in Park West, so I am not asking
landscaping to put in more. They would
just get eaten up. *burp*

Oh, I had a talk with Sunshine the dog
to see why she didn't bark at them! She
said she was too busy guarding her dog
bowl from the feral cats that raid it
every night on the back porch. Likely story...

Full deer, empty flower beds

Well, we think there are a total of 20 pansies left in all of Park West, out of the 1800 planted!!! And we put soap on them!!! Hungry little deer friends.

Park West is the first place we have had a deer eating vegetation problem. Most of the plants we have used are deer-proof. They seem to not like the snapdragons (a good winter annual) as much, so we may try a few of these on a test basis. Not much possibility for annual winter color-please let me know if you all have any ideas. Pansies, Dianthus and Snaps are the traditional winter annuals that will survive down to about 20 degrees. However, we know the deer think pansies are a great desert, they like dianthus, and we have had a little recent success with snaps. They used to eat the roses at the entrance, but have given that up for the time being. We may introduce a little trailing rosemary in each bed and put the flowers behind it. Deer hate the rosemary, so this may be a good way to set it up in the future.
Thanks Susan
Rosemary

Rosemary is a wonderful idea. Not only can you use it in cooking but if you take a sprig of it and toss it in your bath water, it makes for a very relaxing bath. It is very fragrent. also when put in either warm olive oil or mineral oil and is left to steep,it makes a great massage oil.

Disney World solution

Disney World has a solution that works keeps all animals away from plants.

They get human hair (not from unsuspecting strangers - from yourself /hair salon) and sprinkle it around the inside of the bed in a 6'' band.

I've tried it, and it works.
