IS OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOC AWARE OF THIS?
A new Wal-Mart Store is being built.
We in Lakeside division will have many children who will ?“want to go to Wal-Mart.?” A lot of these kids will be walking, riding bicycles etc to get there.
I have a concern about the inevitable increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic in this area.
Currently the Rigsby US 87 roadway is not designed for any pedestrian traffic. Vehicles travel at excessive speeds. Pedestrians have no 'protection' from this speeding traffic. There are no cross walks, cross walk signals, pedestrian lanes or any safety barriers to protect anyone who walks along or ACROSS this roadway.
Wal-Mart will probably be open in the next two months, but no information has been spread to our area of any plans to improve or modify US 87.
And, there are no signs, or any work crews out there indicating anything is going to be done.

DOES ANYONE KNOW...
Is there a plan to modify US 87 from 410 to Lake Front Rd to make it more pedestrian safe?
Are modifications going to be made to US 87 so that we don?’t have multiple pedestrian accidents in this area?
What about additional stoplights for entering and exiting Wal-Mart?

This is a good topic. We have neighborhood meetings and this would be a topic of discussion. It is very scary travelling on Rigsby these days, even without Walmart being opened. People are constantly tailgating and travelling at high rates of speed and there have been several instances where police have sited people for speeding and accidents happening. Let us not forget Ms. White. This is a very relevant problem we will be faced with and something should be done.

Wal-Mart Traffic Hazards

Why in the world would the State of Texas modify HWY 87 a state highway so children could walk or ride their bicycles to the new Super Wal-Mart? I am sure everyone is aware that a Wal-Mart is going in. Wal-Mart is not a park or place of entertainment for children. Parents need to be responsible for their children. I'm sure that there will be traffic lights for entering/exiting the Wal-Mart and other shops that will be located there. I am sure to you your questions are of importance to you. We are all concerned about the speeding right here in Lakeside and the speeding is being done by some residents themselves.
