Speed Humps

I agree with everyone who is for the bumps. I drive a lot in my vehicle and i see everyone speeding in this neighborhood and in a lot of other neighborhoods, in all locations of the city. Most neighborhoods that do either have speed humps or those nasty dips in the road, don't have speed problems b/c of the damage it can cause the vehicles. I agree with the first residents in response to Waynes comments, the parents DO need to be a little moe AWARE of what their kids do. Its common sense that if you live in a busy neighborhood or on a busy streets, keep an eye on your children. But most people take for granted if someone WILL go slow, and in most cases they will b/c of children present. But I see a lot more teenage drivers driving FASTER. Speed humps is nothing more a win-win situation for everyone involved and as long as i am on the board, I will fight anyone who opposes and get more in the streets. Police can't be camped out everywhere 24/7.

When are they putting them in?

Thoughts about Speed Humps

Just a few thoughts about the speed humps:

1) To those of you on Alexa that don't want them, you can place them in front of my house on Senisa Springs. I'll even move them for you. I just about got hit (again!) turning into my driveway by a green Ford Escort station wagon with a young man behind the wheel going a minimum of 45 mph. And yse, my eyes are calibrated to a certain degree after many years of running radar.

2) To those of you who say it is the parent's responsibility to teach their children, you are right...IN A PERFECT WORLD. When I was stationed in Germany, we had a child who was held out of the street as a fire truck approached. He pushed the arm out of the way and ran across the street. Fortunately, the fire truck was going slow because they knew it was an existing hazard. The child was knocked down, but was still coherent enough to flip the driver the middle finger. It is also the parent's responsibility to teach their children not to speed.

3) To those of you questioning the role of the police: They can not be everywhere at all times. There are just are not enough of them. If they were everywhere all of the time, we wouldn't have crime, but all would be complaining about the police state they respresented. And the speeding goes on at all hours of the day. I often leave for work about 0430-0500 hrs. It is not uncommon for me to have to hug my car or pull my door in quickly due to the speed of a car passing me on the street. Traffic engineering, such as speed bumps and STOP signs, is the best way to consistently control the speed.

4) I called 311 today as mentioned during the annual meeting. They were of NO assistance due to the fact I did not have the original address the package was mailed to. If I could get the required info, I will bulldog this.

5) As mentioned in one of the other replies, the speed of these vehicles and the narrowness of the street will not allow for a driver to be able to control his vehicle in the event of mechanical failure or tire blow out.

Bottom line, if you doubt the need for speed bumps, I offer an open invitation to sit in my front lawn over a period of time. Depending on the amount of traffic, a short period of time will let you see the concerns of myself and my neighbors.
