Security Code is for Security!

Your brazen disregard for the wishes of others in this community is unjustifiable, and I for one hope your house sells quickly so that views like yours are no longer part of this community.

We may not have the best security system in this neighborhood, but everyone who bought a house here either found the system to be somewhat important to their decision or implicitly agreed to live with others who did. Your personal opinions of what security is or is not do not matter to me nor do they matter to anyone else. You are in violation of the Enclave's by-laws, and what's worse, you're only doing it for your own perceived personal gain. If you can't get the drive-by lookers b/c you live in a gated community, then so be it. You made the decision to buy here, now gorw up, respect the wishes and rights of others, and live with that decision. If you think that's harming your resale value, then buy your next house in a non-gated community where people can drive by all night and all day. See what that does for your resale value.

And by the way, the next time you choose to write such a defiant, self serving email, at least have the courtesy to let your fellow neighbors know who it is that is snubbing their nose at them.

I don't pretend to know much about the concept of an open house. Nevertheless, I assume that during the hours that a house is ''open'' for prospective buyers, either the seller or his/her agent is present for the event. That being the case --- why not post a sign that lists your phone number as opposed to the security code? Or post information sufficient to allow the prospective buyer to contact you via the intercom at the gate? I find it difficult to believe that someone who is considering purchasing a home that sells for well in excess of $200,000 is going to be dissuaded from looking simply because the gate is locked [I would assume that fact would actually be a plus for the buyer]. Posting a sign at the front of the Enclave would likely require some type of variance from the Declarations and Covenants. However, I would be in favor of a limited variance within reason if this would bring an end to the practice of posting security codes at the gate. Perhaps, the Board could permit signs to be posted within a 5-7 hour time period after which time the signs would have to be removed or be subject to being tossed. Have you sought such a variance? I, for my part, will yank any posting of the security code and would highly encourage everyone else in the Enclave to do the same.

Open houses not very effective

Our realtor told us less than 1% of sales come from open houses. So I really think it's ridiculous to think that missing Lookie-Lous is hurting much.
