Gender Bias at Wal-Mart !!

Someone passed this on to me about Wal-Mart last week.

www.walmartclass.com

There is a Class Action lawsuite that is scheduled to be heard by a Federal judge on July 25 (today) for discrimitory employment policies.

This isn't new stuff, but the statistics about Wal-Mart employees are damning :
Cashiers:
92.5% are women
(average salary $13,800)
7.5% are men
(average salary $14,500)

Store Managers:
85.7% are men
(average salary $105,700)
14.3% are women
(average salary $89,300)

Endeavor Responds w form letters

Last week Chris Ellis from Endeavor respond to most of the neighbors and civic organizations that wrote to them to object to their Wal-Mart StupidCenter project.

Most of us wrote more than 7 weeks ago.

They sent the same brain-dead form letter to the Editor at the Oak Hill Gazzett, which pulished it this week.

It said nothing new, of course, because there isn't anything new to report.

The city has responded to the Endeavor site plan with a 15 page document with minor details that need to be addressed within six months.

There are no serious roadblocks.

Only the court of public opinion and the backlash from one HOA and civic group after another, unamimously endorsing or submitted unique resolutions, ALL OPPOSED TO WAL-MART, if not all other forms of the ''Big Box'' or Warehouse scale businesses.

OHAN will formally vote on the wording and post a Press Release in the first part of August stating it's opposition to the project, too. They had a unanimous vote to the proposal that was voted on earlier this month, over rulling the OHAN President, Larry Smith. Larry's comment was that he opposed taking a hard line, because he wanted to keep the doors open to Endeavor and Wal-Mart, for any possible mediation. The OHAN membership and board members disagreed with him on that point. After more than three months, there has been no progress from either Endeavor or Wal-Mart.

The only thing I would add, is that the whole idea of Big Boxes is incompatible with our area - for many reasons, but TRAFFIC and Environmental concerns lead the list.
