It is my understanding that the HOA is contemplating asking each homeowner to pay +/- $1,000.00 for buying water rights to fill the lake. Is this true? The question that comes to my mind is if the HAO has done its homework? If money is the answer, then there are a lot of questions that need to be answered before any homeowner should be expected to pay. It is my understanding that the association wants to move on this decision within the next few months. If this is so, how informed are they if a baseline study has not been conduced.

The explaination that was given at the meeting is that the well is not in compliance. It has been monitored for the last 9 months or so to see useage. I think its interesting how we are beng monitored during one of the driest times ever. Anyway we have to either buy, lease or cap the well. To get the permit to buy, it apparently is a commodity like corn or something, you have to find someone willing to sell their rights to the water as The Edward Aquifer Arthority will not issue anymore permits. If you find some one to sell then you still have to pay a maintence fee to the Arthority. The guy who came to the meeting danced around some questions that were asked and used the pat answers about compliance and what not. Those exempt are wells for single family homes and ones that feed livestock, I guess the ducks don' t quailify. I guess if there is a buck to be made, its out there. As for the board, They have done research, but apparently notice was sent out in 1996 and up until last year, the Edwards arthority didnt even know there was a well in the lake. But with the lack of rain they went looking. The other thing is the lake may also be spring fed as well, who knows. Gemcraft, the orginal builder has long gone bankrupt and the lake has not always been here.
There are plans to have an association meeting in June to talk about JUST the lake issue. I so not live on the lake but I do not want it to turn into a mud hole for the bugs to hang out in. |
