Well, Johnnie, since I'm in a foul mood today, I'd say one of the reasons we have faithfully paid our dues for over 10 years is so our HOA can send us nasty letters demanding that we hide our enormous, city-issued garbage cans when we don't move them fast enough to suit our neighbors. Each of those letters have to cost at least a few bucks to produce and mail, so I figure when I drive around and see at least 30 cans in yards or on the street, daily, that would account for several hundred dollars or our dues, monthly.
