DFWJim,

The fences along Trinity look "white trash" because the owners have let them rot and fall down. This is not the responsibly of the HOA. They worked long and hard to get the gas lease signed, and once they start drilling, then the new fence will be put up. Unfortunately due to the economy they have ceased the drilling in our area due to the lack of funds and loans available to the gas company. I hope this clears a few things up.

The gas-lease company said they still had to finish signing leases in our neighborhood and stopped, and to our knowledge as residents, nobody has pushed them to finish signing the handful of leases remaining.  I do not believe the story about the economy because there are plenty of other drilling sites in Fort Worth that are active, and still establish new drilling sites all over the area, still to this day.  Only a handful stopped because of neighborhood complaints about unknown gases, etc.  I'm not alone in losing faith in our HOA, membership is down in significant numbers, there's very little activity with the HOA now, and I've even attempted to get in touch with our Code Blue coordinator to get involved, and receive no response on the established email addresses from the newsletter & from HOA meetings.  If I could pay into a mandatory HOA, I would.  At least there would be a requirement to perform duties as elected members of the HOA.  We would also have money to do simple things like mow grass, etc.

I think if you "share" a fence with your neighbor, regardless of which side faces your yard, you should "share" the cost of replacement.  That is what we have done with our north and east side fence that we "share" with neighbors.

The fence that we "share", we installed ourselves and both owners worked together to build it.

On the East side of our house, since we are on a corner, we had to replace ourselves and hired Haven Fence Company to build it for us. (817) 903-7926

He lives in our neighborhood and does a really good job with reasonable rates.

Good idea Laurie, some good old-fashioned neighbor fence-building.  A great way to get to know and maintain friendship with neighbors, especially for working people who work long hours and don't socialize much during the week.
