Turtle Cove

$300, for what?

Posted in: Turtle Cove

For those of you who dont know... Turtle cove is full of elderly people who pretty much run the show.... they  are usually well off, and retired. they dont give a crap about the younger generation growing up there. i have been in t.c. for 4 years now. i have to pay for 2 lots each year. even though my home is only on one lot. i dont get any more privelages for this. nothing. i have never used anything the community has to offer. I have a family, and i dont need these elderly idiots being a family to me. They go the the meetings and stroke each others egos. Mary sue did so well,,,, Timmy tom is a great board member,.. all this crap. and even a fire martial comes in and tells us how to be a fire safe community, which is all great but... we have BIGGER fish to fry... noone in turtle cove wants to pay 300 for a lot. noone.. unless its the old people living on the lake or golf course. they want to pay it because to them it makes the area safer, it keeps those pesky kids from going around and being... kids!. it keeps it private for their old asses. that is all. trust me. everyone on the board has a mission. personal or otherwise.  I will be attending these meetings. Something has to change.  there should be an age limit on being on the board. these people cant and dont understand that times change, and the community has to have old and young working together.  These people waste money. i know. i pay them, and get nothing in return. as well as all of you do. The roads suck.  they need to realize that not everyone in the community wants to go to the clubhouse, we dont care if it burns down. it is for the people who want to use it only. but we all pay. then you got to pay again to use it. wow.  I say we all band together and shut em down. all we got to do is not pay for one year. they would go to hell in a handbasket and then we can start over with volunteers that dont have a vested interest in only THEMSELVES.  If you dont believe this.. i bet you are over 50...

Our trash pickup is NOT free and Turtle Cove does not pay for it. We pay for our garbage pickup thru our Jasper County Taxes. It is right on the bill..dig yours out from last year and have a look!!Tongue out

AMEN TO THAT....

i have lived in turtle cove for twenty three years and turtle cove has gone wayyyyy down hill.  it used to be a nice quiet neighborhood, not anymore.  and no im not on the board, im a mid twenty year old with children. roads were kept up, food was halfway decent, and people were friendly. we pay for trash, i recall three years ago them adding my trash pickup to my mortgage statement. wheres the money going, i will tell yah.  its going to that finance company that is managing tc because we cant. which is way beyond their means, financially. as far as the restaurant goes, it tries.  but i think it was pretty immoral to name their resturant after someone elses. i will be so glad when my house sells because im moving out.  so when you have something to compare tc cove to, you really wont know how much it is lacking.

I also have just moved to Turtle Cove.  At first, the neighborhood seemed like a nice place to live and in some instances it is. Most of the people are great. There is not a lot of traffic and I love living near the lake.  However, the $300 for dues do not make much since.  I have guessed that approximately 1200 houses are located in Turtle Cove (I do understand that not all are occupied).  The houses that are not occupied and are up for sale, are still required to pay their dues.  So, lets just round out the number to 1000.  That would be $300,000.00 from dues alone.  Add in the $25 for the beach passes which adds up to another $25,000.00.  This all goes into the community.....where?  Let me start with the club house.  I have not been since the re-vamp but before, the food was mediocre, the service was terrible, and my child was served an alcoholic beverage.  On top of that, the building looks dated.  The sporting and holiday events charge admission, so again I say... Where is this money going?  On to the beaches..... The volleyball courts  at the beaches are maintained by the residents when they can.  Most are not kept up at all and have been over run by weeds and trash.   A resident was even responsible for purchasing the sand on Whippoorwill.  The areas are covered in trash and glass, making it unsafe for people and especially children.  The beach at Sparrow has been abandoned because the community has refused to keep it up and a few other beaches are following the same trend.  Moving on to a comment I read about the golf courses needing a good deal of money to be maintained.....YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY.  You, even as a "member" cannot play golf for free, so that is taken care of.  The pool also charges for use of it as well, so those fees should take care of that. PLUS, I haven't even started on the day passes that people buy for both the pool and the lake.

So, the golf course is covered by the golfing prices.  The pool is covered by the admission price for that.  The beaches should be maintained from the money coming from the beach passes. The roads are not Turtle Coves responsibility anymore, they were sold to the county. The restaurant generates it own money just like any other restaurant.  What is left? I don't know if I left anything out but it would seem to me that the only thing that is left would be to fill their own pockets.  We, as the younger generation of Turtle Cove, need to start being more proactive because I am tired of paying $300.00 a year for a little brightly colored piece of cardboard that says "member".  The Turtle Cove Management association is not needed.  We should be able to keep this within the community.
