Beginning June 5th the Village of Valleyview will have a new garbage hauler. Rumpke will begin collecting garbage on the June 5th. No more additional information is available. There was only a short notice in the Westside Messenger. There was no mention of the cost.

New Garbage Hauler
I contacted Rumpke about the cost of their trash pickup.I was told it would cost $56.28 quarterly. Waste Mgmt. was $35.70 quarterly. Am I the only one who thinks $20.58 increase quarterly is extreme? Can anyone inform me why the change and why such a large increase on the new contract? I am on a fixed income as I believe many others in the Village are also. I have been a resident since Nov. 1963.

Ask Russolillo
Rumpke was also selected when Russolillo was mayor. The auditors said it was a ''closed door'' meeting. This was illegal.
When I was on council we chose Waste Management for that reason and it was cheaper.
Parrish said there are no details. I would be wondering too.
We also got rid of Pomeroy because they and Russolillo were defrauding the State and residents.
It would appear that Russolillo's bosom buddy Tom Watkins is showing his true colors. I knew it was just a matter of time. Russolillo taught him well.
How often do they meet to discuss what Watkins will do next?
Who, again, has their hand in the till?
Russolillo's wife was having her trash picked up for free when she started her business from home.
Wants goes around comes around! AGAIN !

Garbage Hauling Contract
There could have been better communication from the Council. Council Meetings were held properly and announced ahead of time.
I have only gotten bits and pieces about the decision that was made. I know that the contract is for five years with increases in successive years, but I am not sure as to the increases.
I know that Waste Management did bid on the contract. I would have hoped that the Council would have selected the best value for the Village.
The bids were opened before the public at a special meeting on May 9th. The Council voted on May 16th at another special meeting to award the contract to Rumpke.
Unfortunately because of the lack of coverage by the Messenger the Villagers are not being kept up to date and the Council and Mayor are not making any extra effort to keep people informed about what is going on.
While the increase seems high, I would not say it is out of line. You have to look at what has happened since the last garbage contract was passed in 2003. Since then gasoline prices are at least $1.00 more per gallon, for diesel it is even more. It costs a lot of money to fuel those trucks.
I believe that as part of Waste Managements contract they wanted to place a fuel surcharge on the garbage hauling.
We are getting more services for our money as well. Yard Waste pickup was added back in after the last council removed it to make Waste Management's contract price less. Rumpke's was a cheaper bid then until some on the Council decided to remove a line item.
I would have hoped and even suggested to the members of Council that they needed to get feedback from the residents. The bid might have been cheaper if curbside recycling was removed. Bins could have been placed at Village Hall for people to drop recycleables off. It would have been better to get more input from residents, but I did not see it happen.
If I hear anything else I will post it here.
