Hello folks,
This is Officer Green, the neighborhood police officer for the area in question. I knew when I took over the area, that there would be lots of issues that needed attention. This area, specifically the Lancaster corridor between downtown and S Riverside Drive , has been in poor condition. This area is that old clich?©, the part of town that you don?’t want to be lost in, and that most folks avoid.
There are however, a few enterprising folks who see this area as an untapped resource. These folks are working hard to bring in business, GOOD business, not just corner stores that sell alcohol, and are trying to beautify and promote this area. They have a hard row to hoe. For longer than I have been on the department, this area has been the way it is now. The activities that we see have gone on for so long, that most in the area have just accepted it as common behavior.
I find it refreshing that there are folks who don?’t accept things the way they are, and want changes. BELIEVE ME, I want change too. But this change is not going to happen overnight, nor probably in another year. There are so many problems and issues that need to be addressed.
As an officer, my obligation is to uphold criminal law. Period. I have no legal standing to enforce civil law. That?’s where the citizens and our elected officials come in. We have already made great strides in this area as well. Ms. Hicks, our Council Person for area #8, has worked very hard and in concert with the department to solve the problem of alcohol sales. We have worked with the city attorney?’s office to get guidelines in place to address loitering and trespassing issues. We have worked with TXDOT, and now we have signs up and are slowly cleaning up an area that was once a major eyesore.
All these things have taken the better part of 2 years to accomplish. And after 2 years, we have barely made a dent.
I have been instructed to ask all who are interested if they wish to participate in a forum, held here at the East Division headquarters at 5650 E Lancaster . This forum will include Captain Sudan , Lieutenant Weenig, myself, and anyone else who wishes to attend. I would like to hear ALL COMPLAINTS, and then we can work out solutions to the problems that plague our area.
I would like to set the date as TUESDAY, MARCH 20. THE TIME WILL BE 6 P.M. I WILL PROVIDE REFRESHMENTS
Lets get together. Lets talk, and lets work on a solution. Besides, my e-mail inbox is getting full!!!!
Thanks to all of you for your continued patience and support. Officer Green
