West St. Catherine Neighborhood Association

What's going on at the meetings?

What is going on at the neighborhood meetings? Any way to post what is going to be discussed and give a breakdown of what happened at the meeting? I travel alot and have basically no clue what the neighborhood group is up to untill it is to late. I would like to have some sort of say in matters if those changes affect the area where I have lived for over 20 years.

Neighborhood Association Meeting

First, let me say that the West Saint Catherine NA meetings were, indeed, not the venue where work on the changes you refer to occurred. The changes in traffic pattern in our area were the result of the work done by the transportation committee of the Old Louisville/ Limerick Task Force appointed by Mayor Armstrong in the Fall of 1999.

Other changes have been brought about through the activisim and volunteerism of members of the The Old Louisville Neighborhood Council, which at present, is the umbrella organization comprised of 15 neighborhood associations throughout our historic districts. The real work, however, is done in sub-committees of the OLNC. In a most democractic manner, these sub-committees bring motions to the OLNC's 4th Tuesday of the month meetings, to be voted upon by all authorized represenatives present.

I welcome your particiaption in these proceedings, and would like to extend a personal invitation to you to attend these council meetings at your convenience. In regard to our own neighborhood meetings, they are open to all interested parties as well. Please look for our flyer announcing the agenda and next regularly scheduled meeting date.

First I didnt make reference to the traffic pattern in my posting, just wanted to make that clear. I understand that Mr Bill Heron had final say over that after going against the better judgement of others in his office and going by a traffic study not done by the city.
My posting was to just ask for a breakdown of the meeting for those of us who are interested in the neighboorhood and want to keep up on what is going on around us.

Keeping up

Mary Jo,

WSCNA is a great organization, but far too small to go it alone on dramatic and sudden neighborhood changes. In fact, there really haven't been any regular meetings of the WSCNA of late. When there are, time, place, and agenda are announced on the flyer distributed ahead of time so that those who choose to come will be aware of what will be discussed.

Still, you wanted to know what's been going on. Some of the things we've done in the last 2 months or so include the following: helping the Central Park West Organization with valet parking at the St. James art fair, raising money to maintain our period lighting, working at the gift shop for the Holiday House Tour, and planning the annual Progressive Dinner Party for December 28th. By the way, the dinner party is an excellent opportunity for those who have, for whatever reason, lost touch with neighborhood events to re-involve themselves with the organization. I think WSCNA is actually a nice bunch of people, and we'd love to have the neighbors in.

There is, of course, always the Litterati group, a small core of hard-working individuals who pick up the neighborhood street litter every week.

We'll be glad to inform anyone as to what goes on at the neighborhood meetings--both as a prelude and as a summary. But remember, the meetings don't take place as often as the vital community events where people pitch in, lend their hands toward good causes, and get to know one another and the neighborhood better. Sometimes it's a little extra effort (I've found it that way, working two full-time jobs myself), but it can be both informative and enjoyable. Join us when you're able.
