I?’ve recently returned to my Old Limerick District home from a tour of combat in Iraq, and I am very glad to be home! Love and thanks to all who aided my wife Kimmerle, in my absence. It?’s you fine folks who motivate me to do what I do for a living.
Now, it?’s time to get to business here on West ST Catherine.
Prior to my deployment, there was an influx of drug sales and drug-related crime in my neighborhood. I left in the spring of 2005, and steps we?’re being taken then, to get our streets back. I understand from emails sent to me in Iraq that it was successful. I?’ve since returned, and it looks like the same problem has returned. Unfortunately, getting criminals out of your neighborhood is much like pest-control in an apartment complex: spray one apartment, and the bugs move downstairs.
The amount of Louisville Police in the area has also, according to what I?’ve witnessed, increased. Before my departure, drug sales were taking place on 6th Street, within a football field?’s distance of the District 4 Headquarters. Now, it appears that the Police own their back-yard again. My sincere respect goes out to the women and men of the LMPD; I absolutely back their efforts. Here is where we, as residents of the Limerick District, and I as this neighborhood?’s ?‘Watch Captain,?’ come in to play.
It is time for us to get back out onto our streets, and even more importantly, into our alleys. They are not safe for our use. Drug-related crime has come back, and if the number of physical assaults I?’ve been made aware of are indicators, this summer will outdo that of 2005 in the number of crimes committed. Our own Mrs. Rhonda Williams will be hosting a meeting soon, and there I will outline a plan of mine for ?‘Neighborhood Watch?’ activities. If I have enough dedicated volunteers, I will implement such a plan.
I encourage any interested individuals to contact Mrs. Williams about her meeting, and myself, about our ?‘Watch.?’
