Hello Wash Park residents,

I was wondering what the feeling is in your neighborhood regarding Kathleen Mackenzie welcoming the Denver jail to be built at the Gates Rubber location. Perhaps you're not close enough to Broadway to have a strong opinion, but maybe you are.

I know several of us in the Baker neighborhood (just west of Broadway and north of Alameda) were hoping that the Gates Rubber location would be turned into restaurants/retail, lofts, and/or commercial development. We've been working hard for a long time to improve the Broadway corridor, and we see the jail as a step backwards.

Please respond if you have thoughts on the subject, or feel free to post on the Baker website at http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/bhna.

I've also posted on the West Wash Park website, but they have little or no activity on their discussion boards.

This doesn't belong in an

upper class community. West Wash Park, E Wash Park, Platt Park, etc. are communities where this just shouldn't be happening. I don't the criminals housed in my neighborhood, and I don't want criminal's associates coming there to visit either. Aren't there plenty of vacated empty lots in North west Denver, like Stapleton? Please... what's next a Juvenile Detention Center in Cherry Hills Village?
