Westwood is located in southwest Shelby County. The development of the gaming industry in north Mississippi and the dramatic increase in traffic along Highway 61 (Third Street) has had a huge impact on the Westwood area. However, the people of Westwood still consider the area as a "good neighborhood" with some problems that can be solved by proactive, involved residents working with government, schools, and private agencies. We are proud of the many serene and well-kept neighborhoods in the Westwood area. According to information supplied by the Westwood Community Police Substation (COACT), the area has a relative low rate of major crimes.
This Strategic Plan is a planning framework for the path that the Westwood Neighborhood Association will take as we move forward.
The Three Strategic Directions:
* community participation
* school involvement - Olor W. Hughes
* beautification,safety,& stability-Robert Gurley

The Westwood Neighborhood Association is an organization of residents working to maintain and improve the quality of life in the Westwood community. The association was formed out of a desire to enhance the sense of community and a need to have organized input into city decision-making. We view our organization as a means of addressing civic concerns, encouraging citizen involvement, and providing a link to government. Membership is open to all residents in the neighborhood. The organization meets on the 1st Saturday of each month, 10:00 a.m., at Charles Powell Community Center, 810 Western Park. The Westwood Informer is our biannual newsletter.
