I'm sure this has been asked and answered before, but I haven't seen it. What is the deal with the empty house on the corner of Westport and Wingate, where the message board is located?

Through the efforts of your city council and the KY Department of Transportation, the house was designated as surplus property and Woodlawn Park was granted the property at no cost. The council approved to accept of the property as is, and a Resolution was passed for me to complete the property transfer.
In order to maintain ownership, Woodlawn Park has to use it for city purposes. It will be used for a city hall after repairs and improvements are made.

Wingate Property

When is the ''improvement'' on this property going to take place? The property was acquired in January. It's the middle of March. Has Woodlawn Park gotten multiple bids to do the work? Is it near the $40,000 you estimated? What about Mr. Langford's concern that the status of 5th & 6th class city governments would be challenged? Will the City Hall be available to be used by residents, not just WP government workers? Is this on the agenda for Monday night's meeting?

Although access to the house was granted in January, the deed was not finalized until March 20, 2006. Necessary maintenance repairs to the exterior will be completed this fiscal year, other improvements and remodeling will be submitted for approval in FY-06/07 Budget. Bids will be solicited as required.

The transfer of the adjoining lots are still in process.

Regarding any concern of loss of 5th class city status, the council weighed the risk and consider it to be very low.

The use of the hall will be open for discussion, and a recurring item on the agenda for many months to come. We hope to see you there.
