Who let the Yack arena go to pot

Posted in: Wyandotte
Visiting the Yack arena is like visiting a cave, Dark and dull, There isn't a bright spot in the building,Every city in the area has upgraded their Ice arenas and made them something to be proud of, But not Wyandotte.

It would be nice to see some effort put into cleaning the place up and giving our children a nice place to skate.

Is it any wonder the Hockey program has suffered and now is thought of as one of the worst around?

I think sometimes that the city doesn't care much about it's youth.

The Yack arena should be used for youth activities year round, Enough with the business show and the beer festivals move them to bishop park.Maybe somebody would attend. Make the Yack center a place for our Children to play and mingle. KT

Convention Center & Civi Arena !

This is what you will get more and more as the City acquires property they can not keep up....like Detroit

1. Rite Aid Bldg
2. Ramsey's Watkins Hamburgers Block
3. The Cooler - Biddle Ave
4. Gails Office Supply
5. Trillium Performing Parking Lot Ctr
6. Firestone Tire Bldg.
7. Charter Bank - will probably fold tent '05 and leave town ever go inside during business hours it is a shadow of the bank it used to be...the house of the living dead... no one at home there!

Note the only current strong development right now underway is Monroe Bank & Trust (not any city owned properties) ...and my pal John Daly kicking buts on the gateway issues on the new plaza.

Rumor Johnny K might open a deli once the kid next to Chealsea throws in hios towel, talk about dead in the water, stop into see this poor ''d''astard hard at work. Does the city even send this guy a lunch order every now and then as a thank you ? for his efforts, even if they have not worked out ?

We appreciate your efforts Mike...hang buddy.

Show me a city acquisition in the last few years acquired, redeveloped and now fully leased? please just show me 1 !

The writer makes a very cogent observation try calling it the Wyandotte Business & Convention Center see if a change of name will be a draw for Chain Stores or Anchor stores to come here!

Thoughts?

The old daze

I miss the Model Engineering expo at the Yack!

How much business was lost to that? Alot for that one weekend I imagine. That annual show had good NATIONWIDE draw that exposed our little town to many with open pocketbooks.

Now I have to drive west to the suburb with no downtown (but a nice convention center) for the event.

Add the Yack Center to the list!

Wyandotte is outsatnding at not taking care of it's assets.

For example, Bishop Park, The Police & Court Building, the city park and City Hall to name a few of the examlpes of deferred maintenance in our great city.

We just never seem to have the money to keep things up. The golf course was close to being added to the list.
