APATHY?
Good luck getting 1,000 -- I ended up voting on line, but I guess I am really down on the electorate in Wyandotte -- it is really hard getting my own block to vote for anyone! They have signs out, but many don't vote. We read all these posts about candidates and who is good and who isn't and it comes down to which candidates can move anyone to get out and vote for them. The issue elections, like the Charter revision, drew interest, but did it really get a huge outturn of voters?
All those of us who are interested in the process of voting for the candidates we believe in and issues we are behind may win some, but we have to be wondering about if the majority of the registered voters really care about who's in charge and what issues will shape our city's future.
I wonder if this may deter good candidates from raising funds and busting their arses trying to convince a disinterested electorate to just make the trip to polls and vote for someone or something. I think this is why there are small ''cliques'' in our city that control some things political.
I come from a large, very political-oriented family and my father would be insulted if we kids did not vote - and he'd try to sell his party and views, and he expected an argument! But he never asked me how I voted -- he'd say ''Bud, did you do the right thing?'' and I'd always say --''Yes, Sir!''
Too bad I couldn't instill that fervor in my own children!
All we can do is just try and support the things and people we believe in - and maybe influence others who care!
End of sermon!
