ANA Meeting Minutes, April 2013

The April monthly meeting of the Auburndale Neighborhood Association was called to order on Tuesday, April 23, at 7:10 p.m. by Ken Williams, president.   Light refreshments were served to the 26 people in attendance.

Councilman David Yates shared information about the improvement projects in our neighborhood. Improvement to sidewalks is on the calendar and will be completed as requested by homeowners. He also discussed the many events upcoming at Iroquois Park and the Amphitheater, emphasizing the New Cut Corridor Trolley Hop on Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Mr. Yates, responding to a question and a recent newspaper article, discussed the city’s involvement in the purchase of Colonial Gardens. At this time, the city has not finalized arrangements to purchase the property.

Ken McFarland thanked those who participated in the neighborhood Brightside cleanup giving special recognition to Kenwood’s new assistant principal and others for the beautiful landscape work at the school.

Featured speaker, Steve Wiser, presented an enjoyable and interesting talk about the Legends and Landmarks of Louisville. He highlighted, through a slide show, many of the historical landmark changes and the people whose names can be found throughout our city. His books and tapes were available for purchase. The presentation was so enjoyable that Mr. Wiser has been asked to return in the future.

Sally Pence, Kenwood Family Resouce Director, reported on the events at school, including a talent show produced by the students. She stated ANA needs to submit a written request as soon as possible for the use of Kenwood’s restrooms during the Third Annual Picnic, June 25, 5-9 p.m. It is needed so building maintenance personal can adjust their work schedules again this year to cover the 4 hour period during the picnic. This request was submitted via email to Kenwood Principal, Jill Handley, by Ken McFarland on April 23.

New neighbors, Jennifer and Justin Hall, were welcomed to the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
