Again, Thank You, THO
I guess we can determine that for the period l999 through 2003 our pupil expenditures increased $ll,772,l24. while we added 76 students. And for that same period teacher salaries increased $4,449. while their numbers increased 43.5. 2003 shows us surpassing state averages for pupil expenditures. I know I am doing something wrong because we wouldn't add 43 teachers for an increase of 76 students, where am I miscalculating?

Some One Said,
that if we didn't have prop 2 1/2, property taxes would be double what your paying now. It has worked quite well in the last 20 years even with all the moaning and groaning from certain unions. And thanks THO, for this informative post.

Public Schools
FYI - The theory of public schools is that everyone in town pays for them...when your kids or my kids graduate, then we continue to support the school systems. And so on and so on. Also, most people who have moved here, did so for the school system. They are the ones with the disposable income that spend it in town on the local merchants. Good schools equals good property values because of the demand to move to a town with a good school system. Frankly, if you don't want to support the schools, why don't you create a community with no kids - because no matter where you go, you will always have the school situation. With your mentality, why don't we each pay for the street lights in front of our own houses and why don't we all pay for the road maintenance on the roads we live on, including repair, snow removal, etc. And if a police officer or fire fighter needs to respond to your house or neighborhood, why don't we assess you and the entire neighborhood for that cost? The list could go on. So before you start talking about the families of school age kids bearing the entire burden then think about what it would personally cost you to bear the expense of all the services you have the benefit of from living in this town. Not very smart.
