If they like the schools so much lets put the proposed raises for the next five years into the school , town buildings and highway infrastructure. If they will go for that then I for one will believe them and their override for the schools and infrastructure spiel.

its time to play
hardball with the teachers union. why do we as a town continue to sign contracts with the teachers union that favor them and give us less in return. the constant complaint of class size and more help for teachers in the class room leads me to believe that the profession of teaching has reached the status of culthood. The cults have gone further and now prefer to be called educators as opposed to lowly teachers.
The concept of tenure and requiring advanced degrees to teach elementary schools is border line
insanity. The largest union in these United States is the NEA, (national education association)it is larger than the Teamsters Union and its sole purpose is to drive the teachers causes nationally.
There are nationally two distinct unions but teachers must belong to both. The NEA has a strangle hold on the public school system nationally And is on the presidents cabinet.
The NEA is a political cause in every national election and will use teachers paid due?’s to fund their causes.
The concept to fund schools with local taxes in this state always leads to warfare between the towns and the teachers unions. The various towns school committee?’s and fincom?’s have become infiltrated with pro give them what ever they want types. It is not uncommon to have a husband in the Finance Committee and his wife on the school committee, now that is cute. Over a period of time they, the teachers unions will own the towns with political influence.

What about the Moderator who appoints the finance committee? You know, the one who's wife is a teacher, the one who appointed a school committee member's new wife (2nd marriage) to the fin com?
Don't expect objectivity from the Fin Com. It's loaded with pro-teacher's union members.
