WHY HAVE A MISSLE SHIELD

Posted in: Braintree
EUROPEAN GPS WITH CHINA?’S BACKIN

In ''Hostile Space''1, my friend and colleague Philip Ball warns of the dangers of US imperialism in space. He refers to ambitions that would not only violate treaty obligations, but also pose a physical threat to the Galileo satellite cluster, which is proposed by the European Space Agency (ESA) as a rival to the US-controlled Global Positioning System (GPS).

I feel compelled to present the other side of the argument, to argue against hysteria about the sky falling on our heads. It is simplistic to portray US ambitions in space as 'bad' and European projects as 'good'. Galileo has, intentionally and inescapably, a military function. And it is being bankrolled by nations, such as China, whose strategic objectives are transparently at odds with declared US strategy.

If a war between The United States and China broke out the GPS (global Positioning system)
is owned and controlled by America wouldn?’t be available to China Thus their interest in the European system!

China?’s main use of the system (GPS)would be cruise missile guidance and navigation!
ICBM?’s use inertial navigation (internal to the warhead, also stolen by Chinese agents),

international efforts fail

Iran yesterday dismissed the threat of an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities as a ''silly joke.''
''This is a silly joke, just a psychological war,'' foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.
''The Israelis have an accurate appraisal of their own capabilities and Iran's capabilities. And they know that resorting to this will only translate into a decisive and irrevocable response to the Zionist regime,'' he added.
In recent weeks there has been a mounting war of words with Israel, which accuses Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
Iran recently announced it may decide to pre-empt an Israeli or American strike with an attack against the Jewish state or U.S. interests in the Middle East.
The ayatollahs have also gone to great lengths to warn that Iran can ''hit anywhere in Israel'' with its upgraded version of the Shahab-3 medium-range ballistic missile.
In July, Israel conducted military exercises for a pre-emptive strike against several of Iran's nuclear-power facilities and is ready to attack if Russia supplies Iran with rods for enriching uranium.
An Israeli defense source said, ''Israel will on no account permit Iranian reactors ?– especially the one being built in Bushehr with Russian help ?– to go critical.''
The source also said any strike on Iran's reactors would probably be carried out by long-range F-15I jets, flying over Turkey, with simultaneous operations by commandos on the ground.
Russia is expected to deliver the enriching rods, currently being stored at a Russian port, late next year after a dispute over financial terms is resolved.
''If the worst comes to the worst and international efforts fail,'' the source said, ''we are very confident we'll be able to demolish the ayatollah's nuclear aspirations in one go.''

China Increases Its Missile Forces While Opposing U.S. Missile Defense

Revelations that China stole U.S. nuclear warhead secrets highlight two strategic challenges to the United States. First, China is building a range of new ballistic and cruise missiles. New, small nuclear warheads--developed with the help of the stolen information and other U.S. data--will allow China to place multiple warheads on new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) or equip short-range missiles with nuclear warheads. China has increased to over 100 the number of missiles pointed at Taiwan, and future theater ballistic and cruise missiles could threaten U.S. forces and allies in Asia. Second, China is seeking to weaken U.S. alliances by waging a loud and menacing campaign to prevent the U.S. deployment of missile defenses in Asia that can guard against the growing North Korean and Chinese missile forces.
