China Says American Ships Are Dead Meat
Mr Speaker, military experts say that China just bought 24 cruise missiles from Russia. They now say American ships are now, quote/unquote, dead meat, dead meat. Think about it. We give Russia foreign aid. Russia builds missiles. Russia sells the missiles to China, built with American cash. China threatens Taiwan and Uncle Sam. Unbelievable.
I think it is time for Congress to tell China to keep their Communist hands off of Taiwan.

Hughes-Cares salvo equations

I ran some Hughes-Cares salvo equations. ASSUMING that the Chinese can shoot all 24 missiles in one salvo (they can't) and that the missiles ALL work perfectly (they won't--they're called MISS-ILES instead of HIT-ILES for a reason :o) AND the Chinese have perfect fire distribution (they won't), they will probably bag 6-8 ships at most, unless they throw nukes. If they throw nukes, that goes to 10-12 ships, again assuming perfect conditions.

A more likely scenario is that the Chinese will sink some unlucky American small-deck ship (the losses in a typical scenario are fractional, indicating that some of the time the ship will be sunk, sometimes only damaged, and sometimes nothing happens except the Chinese have annoyed the American battlegroup. The ship that launched the salvo will soon do a one-time submarine impression. The USN will then assume anything with the Chinese flag is fair game. The lifespan of China's navy is then measured in hours. The sharks of the Taiwan Strait will feast on rare Chinese delicacies called ''sailors'' and ''soldiers.''
