Town of Braintree

teachers raises

Posted in: Braintree
It's 1%

The raise in the first year is 1%. I wouldn't call that a budget buster. The SC could stick to the zero forever and not get a contract signed, or they could get a deal done in the cheapest way for the town. The police and fire unions would never have accepted a zero either, so any of that talk is just foolish. The vote by the members was very close...the 1% almost didn't pass. Since both sides seem unhappy it must have been a fair deal.

AND

1% added to ? % = ? % of an actual raise?
They are already assured of a step-raise at
what, 3%?; now add in the 1% and they have just received a 4% raise. Some would like us to forget they get a step-raise every year; too much appathy out there folks.
if you could please explain

this built in step raise,i'd be grateful.if its true,do the other bargaining units in town have the same
perk? thanks.any info would be helpful.

The contract gives 1% raise in year one (2004-2005), 2% raise in year two, 3% in year 3 and 4% in year 4. Now the finance com. has already stated we can only afford the 1% this year by using one time funding sources. That 1% will not be there next year! Neither will the additional 2% they are slated to get. Sure 1% does not sound like much, but how about 500,000 that I hear thrown around for every 1% raise they get! We are talking 1,500,000 next fiscal year folks if this passes.

And like others have pointed out the teachers get longevity and step raises.
