While waiting in the wings is
UBU THE WONDER DOG
Better still as a new Town Manager, train him to shake his head violently when hears the word money, raise or contact. He should be given free access to all town property, schools, classrooms, sewer/water depts. palatial new palaces, police and fire stations!
The kids would love him but the school administrators would try to exclude him from their domains on various health related issues, a few judicious growls and bites should solve those problems!
Teach him to play poker and after he shows promise in bluffing run him against the teachers union! Teach him about town politicians, police and fire union issues and turn him loose!
He will be smarter than our recent leaders and work for peanuts, er, bones.

ubu is not a political animal
hello again this is Elias Smith.it is quite flattering that you would consider ubu for a role in town goverment.after that last episode of web surfing we had a long talk about boundries.we won't go there.that's when the subject of a possible career change was first broached with him, and honestly his heart & tail wouldn't be in it for the long haul.he realizes that presently there is a power vacuum and it would be very easy to dip his paw in the pool and emerge victorious in a nip and tuck dog eat dog selectmen race with either candidate.then what? long days and even longer nights dealing with unions, cash flow, budget employee incompetence, and finally the shipyard tragedy.as it stands now he literally has a dog's life and he unwilling to give that up for anything.sorry.he will support any competent, ethical underdog's bid for office, however and we are willing to supply as much of our Smith Brothers products as necessary for a hack free political debate.

BOS will favor pet program $$$$$
the board will not stand up to ANY department.the problem remains that not enough money exists to pay for the excess.the pro taxers rail OVERRRIDE!
while the pro prop 2 1/2 crowd crow
NO OVERRIDE,EVER! the voters with the most influence get their pet projects
resolved because its time for those candidates to pay the piper for the boost these people gave them to get or
stay in their post.this is old news to all.

And I thought you were smarter
I thought that you had a good handle on things around town THO but you disappoint me with your last post.
Last year every department in town received major cuts to address the budget shortfall. You do remember that these cuts were the beginning steps to stop the structural deficit that the towm has been operating on for many years. The Finance Director, Selectmen and FinCom finally got on the same page last year, which is a first for this town and put a budget together that could be sustained by our taxes.
The school committee is crying about the dollar amount of their cuts last year but most of those cuts were due to their dependency on using State Aid (aka one time funding sources) for recurring programs. Knowing that, this year they decide to give their workforce a raise which creates a deficit for the town. Does this make sense to anyone?
A debt exclusion question for CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS was put to the voters last year and it didn't pass. I think that it failed because most people don't understand the difference between an override and a debt exclusion but that's another matter.
As a voter, I think that these questions should be put in front of us and I don't think that the candidates have any effect on the outcome. People vote based on what they believe to be true and unfortunately when it comes to overrides and debt exclusions, people just don't understand them.
I voted for the question last year because it was a debt exclusion for capital improvements. I voted No and would vote No again on an override question for services.
