I received an invitation to attend tonight's park commission meeting. They were meeting with the pool committee to discuss putting the pool at Hollis Field. I support this once and for all decision for the following reasons: a. a pool would be great for families at this park smack in the middle of our town next to our new playground. b. we can finally have a pool families for decades have waited for and this site is as good as any. c. Hollis Field needs help and putting a pool at the park would bring excitement back on the faces of many families of Braintree. d. We can have swimming classes restored in Braintree for our young. e. An outdoor pool to operate about 12 weeks each summer would be a welcomed alternative to Sunset Lake and Smith Beach. f. We can afford this pool now, so why wait? g. Thinking as Mr. Tobin has been quoted in the newspaper that an indoor pool should go to the high school has one missing very important ingredient with that narrow minded view - lack of funds to build an indoor pool! h. Access and egress to the pool into Hollis Field will not inconvenience the funeral home (that has an illegal fence gate to the town's parking lot I might add) or nearby neighborhood residents. i. We can swim in this pool by next summer if we begin to establish some groundswell of support for the pool. j. An outdoor pool for the town's residents that is affordable that could thrill hundreds each summer makes far more sense than an indoor pool for a swim team of 20 swimmers who would dominate a pool at the high school and restrict residents from access. I don't believe that was the last dying wish of Mr. Peterson to provide a cooling recreational alternative to our hot summers ahead.

Don't get to excited...
about either an indoor or outdoor pool. Sounds great, yes. However, NO ONE HAS STATED HOW THIS IS TO BE FUNDED. As a taxpayer I would object to any tax money being spent on any expenses related to a pool. This town has more than enough problems to spend their money on - schools, roads, etc. So, Pool Committee, please tell us how this is going to be funded. Mr. Peterson was generous, yes, but it was not a well thought out gesture. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to or should do it. I wonder if that's the case here. And get over the so called ''illegal fence'' by the funeral home. He has run his business for many years in this town, the family is an outstanding member of our community. I fully understand his concern. How would you like your family member to be waked in the middle of a hundred screaming kids? Stop being so condescending so YOU can get your own way. Again, I really don't think this Pool issue has been well thought out other than where to put it, starting with Mr. Peterson down to the present committee.

At no time did I even consider an outdoor pool. We should build something that can be used year round, not an expensive summer project. What is the point? What will happen to Sunset Lake funds? The town is unable to get life guards for the lake, now you want to man an outdoor pool. I do support a pool, but an indoor center at the highschool is more user friendly. Parking is not the nightmare it would be at Hollis. It also enhances the school athletic program by offering space for a swim team. Not to be negative, but troublemakers (who could jeopardize the success of this project) would be better monitored in a more isolated area.
