Town of Braintree

Money down the drain

Posted in: Braintree
Recent headline in the Braintree Forum:

''Water/sewer budgets up 10.8 percent''

So much for those great savings by creating a DPW department and consolidating. Further proof that the Government Study Committee and Selectmen have completely screwed up our town's government.

This is outrageous!

What Can You Expect....

When the current Water/Sewer director
got his start pushing a broom at the
former transfer station. But he had the good sense to marry into a politically connected family. He doesn't have the licenses required for
the job either and if one could see the
records of the personnel employed over
that building, one would find several
cases of nepotism.
Family Tree

And what ''politically connected family'' would that be - the Adams?

The Selectmen are the ones to blame for the lack of savings in our ''consolidated'' Department of Public Works. Blaming it on middle managment is just a lame cop out.

Bullpucky!

If you've lived in the town for more than a year you would know that the town is under an administrative consent order from the DEP to address our water and sewer issues. This mandated work is forcing us to raise rates and pay for the improvements. If our long forgotten water and sewer commissioners were focusing on getting the infrastructure updated rather than firning their director;s on a Saturday morning, maybe we wouldn't be in this mess.

Now that the DEP is involved, our town is being forced to spend the money on these improvements. I think to the tune of $30 million over the next 20 years.

Where does this money come from? The ratepayers. BOS and DPW consolidation had nothing to do with this mess. Old boy W&S politics, which seems to be back in style if you watch the Selectmen meetings, created this mess. And it is only going to get worse.
