I did not find being on the BOD "hard" as such but, yes, it was pretty thankless.  Back to the original point--I remain perplexed as to why we don't have local management.

Several years ago, our managment company was a homeowner in our subdivision.

Along with overcharging, that person created havoc on our credibility with local management companies. (mismanagement claims? etc)

In other words for a local company(or anyone) to handle Towne Lake and straighten out our finanacial mess it would have cost a lot .

Needless to say most companies did not even want to deal with our HOA.

Eventually a new board was elected and the search for an new local manag. co. began.

The new company did straighten out the books,( and for cheap, since they were new and local) and set the Townelake on good setting (in other words, we can now approach other  "local companies" now and expect to pay competitve rates. (trust me we couldn't before!)

That local management company was so successful that it attracted the attention of Real manage and was offered a buy out.  So here we are dealing with Real Mang and not that  local company that I really miss. Cry

While not an "old timer," I've lived in Towne Lake long enough to remember some of the previous Management Companies and the headaches contained therein.  When does the existing management company contract end?  Perhaps bids from local companies can be requested.  Previous to the homeowner who became manager, we had one or two local folks and I can remember picking up the phone and having it answered by a person who listened and, if necessary, drove out then and there.  No 800 numbers; no out of the area people.
