Hello fellow Castlegate homeowners - Just a note to let you know that there is someone breaking into vehicles in our community - This may or may not be someone who lives in Castlegate, but I thought I should let everyone know, regardless.

Last night my vehicle was broken into and "ransacked", for lack of a better term.  I lost a case with some old CD's, as well as a National Forest pass card.

I have filed a police report, and I have reported my pass as stolen to the Mesa Ranger District.  I do intend on being extra vigilant with leaving my garage lights on, etc.  I hate to waste electricity, but if it deters crime, then I suppose it is worth it.

Items are not really worth much, but this is a nice reminder that we live in a broken world that is not what it used to be.  Take care of yourselves and be safe.

Definitely sorry to hear that.  But absolutely!

If you are concerned with the electricity factor you can get motion lights at Home Depot or Walmart for not too much that you can either have be on a dim setting that they are dimmer until someone triggers the motion detection and then come on brighter or they can be off completely and come on when someone triggers the motion detection feature.  Then you can set them to stay on for 1 minute 5 minutes or 10 minutes once that's been triggered.  That way you're not using as much electricity.  If you have the standard lights and don't want motion detection you can always install the CFL bulbs which use almost no energy at all (same with your porch light).

I highly recommend to everyone around here that since we do not have street lights to keep your main porch light on as well as garage lights.  Again there's CFL bulbs to keep down the electricity there's motion detection lights and there are timered lights (if you're one to forget to turn lights off), as well as dusk to dawn lights so there are ways to minimize the electricity usage if that's a big concern. I can tell you I leave my garage lights on as well as my porch light and have noticed ZERO difference in my electricity bill, so for us anyway, they haven't made my bill go up enough that I've noticed.

Glad to hear you reported it to the police.  Good luck in the future!

By garage lights do you mean the ones inside the garage or the ones outside the garage?

Very sorry to hear this happened to you.

Pinal County Sheriff just left my property - Not much they can do (of course) - Spoke to a couple of my neighbors, though - Man across the street had a similar break-in on his truck 2 months ago.  Other nieghbor reports the same thing 6 months ago.....

Is there a neighborhood watch here in Castlegate?

Sounds like "we" might have a problem here in this community!  Tis the season to be desperate, I guess!?!?!

I'm willing to donate my time to patrol the community - Do something - Suggestions?

Keep this discussion going!  This is serious!  A stolen CD case might turn into a home invasion someday, and someone might get hurt, or worse!
