Repeal Broomfield County

Hi Cheryl,

CVELG continues to work on the repeal.

In the meantime, did you hear the stunt the Broomfield City Council pulled last night (3/28)?

Citizens were told if they brought 500 petition signatures that supported a request for public hearings on the formation of the Northwest Parkway, that a council member would bring the issue up for a vote.

They did and he did, and the council voted to hold a public hearing 4/11. The citizens believed their work was done and they went home.

Then, the Broomfield City Council pulls another late night sham. At 11:30, they voted again & decided to NOT hold any public hearings.

This council acts with such impunity.

They rape the process.

Where is the integrity?
Where is the protection for the citizens?

And WHO OWNS THIS COUNCIL? WHY DOES THIS COUNCIL SO DESPERATELY WANT THE NWP?

Clarification of previous reply

A petition was presented to the BCC on 2/28 with 329 signatures. It requested a citizen vote about continuing with the NWP at this time. It was presented during "citizen comments" at about 7:00 with no action by council, but a statement that it would be considered. The petition asked for formal, public response within 1 month.

As I understand it, it came up later, after normal council business (11:30?)under council reports and a motion to put the issue to a ballot was defeated by 9-1 vote. These "elected council representatives" obviously didn't have time to get any additional citizen input or ask any of their consitiuents. But, obviously, that doesn't matter.

It appears to have been a fruitless (and naive?) attempt to get the BCC to do the right thing through the "public and responsive open meetings" the BCC always seems to brag about. This is just another case of what this claim means (or really doesn't mean).
To ann

I hadn't heard about that but somehow it does not surprise me either. God, this council needs to go down and go down hard. If the people of BF KNEW of all the stuff that is going on, they would have their heads!!

It is my understanding that the motion was followed by a request to make the subject an "agenda item" giving the council the right to take a vote immediately; rather than seeking citizen involvement.

To me; this is simply another statement that citizens are not welcomed by the council for input; unless they are first invited to speak on a subject. It is a statement that the council will control the subject matter on which citizens may have a voice; and currently, that subject matter is limited to the formation of the county; specifically the human services division.

In other words; we are to stay out of their way; as we are not qualified to speak on citizen concerns. This council has set themselves on a pedestal; and created a stone wall around that pedestal. They are neither interested in or open to concerns of the residents.
Will these actions taken on Tuesday ever be publicized? I do hope so; and I do hope that more residents become involved in breaking the cement barrier which surrounds the council.
