To all Broomfield Residents
The Broomfield City Council will continue its degradation of the community residents if the citizens continue to let a few people speak for them. No matter how many signatures are on a petition, whether it be 5 or 5000, the council will ignore the public unless the numbers of people increase in contacting the council; appearing at council meetings, and demand to know the facts about what is happening in this town.
Only a few people have come forward to challenge the two biggest expenses for the city: the county and the NWP. These are so outrageous that road repair, neighborhood maintenance, and, now, recreation facilities and open space funds are being used to support these major expenses.
First, people should realize that the Northwest Parkway is not a parkway. An example of a parkway is Foothills Parkway in Boulder, a corridor of trees that is complementary to the neighborhood. Broomfield's NWP is a toll road turnpike. Most devasting is the growth that this will bring. Council continually takes about the open space corridor. As part of the Northwest Parkway Agreement between Interlocken and the City of Broomfield, the open space corridor will see development within 75 feet of the turnpike. Look at US 36, this is the future northern edge of Broomfield.
The NWP will not provide an immediate route to DIA. It will provide an easy link between the two Interlocken campuses.
We will not be a community of 60,000 with 40% open space; we will be a community of approximately 110,000 with less than 10% open space.
About the community needs; expect to pay more in taxes or interest in bond money for recreation facilites, community maintenance, andd the basic needs of a city/county.
Monies coming from the mall and Interlocken corporate taxes will be used to pay off the expenses of incentives; county expenses, and the NWP. These funds are not targeted for the community; except in additional staff needs and facilites.
It is time to come forward; and speak for yourself; your neighborhood, and your community. If not, you will be sitting in a house in a community that is bankrupt.
The Northwest Parkway North Sub Area plan will be discussed in the next council meeting. As Interlocken and the city planned; this will be for approval of destruction of the open space corridor; all for the benefit of Interlocken's second campus and the housing needed to support that building.
This all started with Interlocken's support of one county, one government, one corporate owner of the City/County of Broomfield; one roadway. All the agreements are dated 1998; the council lets us know in late 1999 and 2000.
People do care; I know that; but only a few take the initiative to be active.
Contact Roy Jones; he is in the phone book and tried to bring this forward in a council meeting. If you read Saturday's Enterprise, he was stabbed in the back by the council.
