Repeal Broomfield County

Broomfield Council appears to enjoy the spotlight; even if it is a negative spotlight.
Yes, they are bold enough to have gone to the state and asked for funding; after they promoted a no-tax; no cost to the electorate. But then, who counts lies at the state house?
The debt that Broomfield council has created for the electorate is astronomical. Even though I am unaware of the full extent of the debt; I can say this.
DiCero outlined in the Enterprise the costs of the new county--estimated, in rounded terms) at 54 million.
What he failed to mention; is the actual cost is 128 million; the cost plus interest.
It was published that bonds will again be sought to pay for the recreational facilities. Estimated cost: 43 million; although the interest payments were NOT presented; based on all things remaining equal (interest rate, terms, etc); the payback will be 102 million.
I do not have exact numbers on the NWP: but estimated at 1/3 the cost; this is another potential 70 million, in conservative terms. As taxpayers we will be reponsible for costs of the ramps, etc.

Other costs are uncertain but will be related to either the NWP or county in one way or another; none of which are cheap. The interchange at 287 and 36 and all anticipated road work on 128 extension (some might be state and RTD money); the connection of the "RTD connector" to run through Interlocken, the mall and connect to NWP; the roadways realignment for the new Park N ride, the purchase of existing properties and businesses in this area.

At some point we, as citizens, will have a direct or indirect involvement in these costs. Nor has a reasonable solution to continue open space purchases been resolved.

BF continually sites the income from Interlocken and the Mall as being under-estimated; however there are major incentives to be paid to the developers.

What are our total costs? I don't know. But I can gurantee this; fast food, gas stations, and grocery stores cannot make up the difference in the incentive payments to the developers.
I have to agree with Anonymous; we are going to emulate Orange County and go bankrupt.
How do we involve the people; quite frankly, without a vote (and none of these programs require a vote); the people cannot become involved without council approval. And look what happened when the people went for a vote on the NWP. Council dismissed the topic as irrelavent. That is one reason John can come on this board and throw stupid, unfounded insults. He is, indeed, representative of the majority of the council members.

Must've hit a NERVE

Notice how the Broomfield Cheerleader goes quiet when certain truths are exposed.

So who is going to bail out the City and County of Bankrupt Broomfield?

Time to wake up

Okay you folks from broomfield, it is time to wake up. Broomfield publicized a bogus growth pact, they have gone into so much debt from the county creaton it makes our heads spin, we have no control over our open space money and have seen zero accountability of how the funds are spent, we are unclear of how much money is funneled from our tax dollars to the Broomfield Economic Development corporation. We all know these guys are crooked as the day is long but none of us are doing anything to stop it or gather to achieve any meaningful goal. I am telling you it is time to unite. Lets met somewhere, lets set a time under a name or something and get together what do you say?
