Just Curious

No we did not contact them. We were told there were no codes for a haunted house and to have fun with it. We were also told to call the MFD AFTER the structure was built so they could do a safety check which was not pass-fail, it was recommendations. We told the official at City Hall what the structure was going to be made of.

We passed inspection by the Muscatine Fire Department on Thursday afternoon. Then shut down on Friday.

The story, by Dahlby, goes that the first crew was uncertan about it, even thought they expressed no concern to us and said it looked great and to have fun. This was Friday.

Then Dahlby told us the first crew wasnt qualified to inspect such a structure and shouldnt have inspected and passed it.

Then Dahlby told us that the building inspector told him that he had concerns. We called the inspector and he said he NEVER said such a thing.

Then Dahlby said in the paper today, that the first crew did not see the potential dangers the he (Dahlby) saw.

get it straight

Yes. I think we deserve a straight answer. We have tried on NUMEROUS occasions to contact Dalbey with no return calls. We have heard so many lies, I dont think they know what to believe anymore. The fact still remains that we deserve to open. I do know for a fact that there has been haunted houses in Muscatine in the past. I also know for a fact that they were inspected by the MFD and passed! Using the exact same materials we have in ours. We would really love to have some support from Muscatine on this. It will be benefiting the MHS and the Red Cross!! Even if you dont like haunted houses, we would still like to have a straight answer and not have Dalbey push the blame for this on to other people!!!

Yet another Dahlby story

DALBEY MADE THE DECISION LAST FRIDAY NIGHT TO SHUT DOWN THE HAUNTED HOUSE THAT ORGANIZERS WERE ABOUT TO OPEN AT 1208 WASHINGTON STREET AS A FUNDRAISER FOR THE RED CROSS AND TO COLLECT DONATIONS FOR THE MUSCATINE HIGH SCHOOL CANNED FOOD DRIVE. HE SAYS THE ORGANIZERS MADE A GOOD FAITH EFFORT TO COMPLY, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY GOT A MIXED MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. HE SAYS THAT'S BECAUSE THE FIRE CREW THAT WAS TO INSPECT THE SIGHT ON WEDNESDAY GOT BEHIND SCHEDULE, SO HE ASSIGNED THEM TO CONDUCT THE INSPECTION ON FRIDAY WHEN THEY WERE NEXT ON DUTY. HE WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN LATER THE THURSDAY SHIFT HAD CONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION WHEN THEY WERE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD -- AND WITHOUT HIS ADVICE ABOUT WHAT TO LOOK FOR. DALBEY SAYS THAT'S WHY THEY DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THE HAZARDS OF PALATES COVERED WITH PLASTIC SHEETING -- AND THEY INITIALLY TOLD THE ORGANIZERS TO GET SOME FIRE EXTINGUISHERS AND FLASHLIGHTS. DALBEY WASN'T COMFORTABLE WITH THAT ASSESSMENT AND SENT THE FRIDAY CREW IN. HE SAYS THEY CALLED HIM TO THE SCENE ABOUT 45 MINUTES LATER -- AND AFTER THEY TOURED THE HAUNTED HOUSE TOGETHER, HE DECIDED IT WAS UNSAFE.

Other Hanuted houses in town

About the other haunted house's that were in town.Yes they had palstic, No they did not have pallet walls. They where made out of 4x8 sheets of plywood with a frame. And the tops on most of the rooms where open. Maybe you are useing to much plastic!! And too many pallets. Not sure about your electric stuff maybe try power surges and less drop cords. Not sure how many was used in your haunted house. But try that out.
